There’s so much information out there on when and where to pinch them and I’m terrified to mess it up.

One of the three that’s has come up seems like it may be close? Unsure if I should wait a little longer or rip off the bandaid and do it now

This is an automatic reminder regarding r/dahlias Rule 3:

When reasonable*, posters should make a good-faith effort to identify which variety/varieties are shown in their photo(s). If you don’t know for certain, please say so. Someone will usually know!

*Common-sense exceptions to this rule will be honored, such as if the photo does not contain a blossom, or if your photo contains large volumes (such as in wide field shots).

If you’ve already done this, thank you! No further action required.

If not, please add a reply to this comment and confirm if you know the name of your dahlia variety/varieties shown in the photo(s). Alternately, if you’re uncertain of the variety name(s), it’s ok to say that, too.

    1. It’s my second year and the more I read and learn the more I realize how much these babies want to grow! It’s think they’re a little harder to “mess up” than we might think 🙂 hopefully that can take some pressure off!

    2. You can pinch once you have ~4 sets of leaves, above the third or fourth set. Typically the plant should be around 10-12 inches tall so you may want to wait just a bit longer. It’s also not the end of the world if you pinch it a little late. You want it to be nice and strong (it looks it!) and it’s all just to encourage it to get bushier!

    Edit: spelling

  3. Second the above comment about them not being very delicate.
Your plant looks great, I would wait to pinch and let it grow another few inches.
