I have never in my life seen a hoya (from the store) start flowering this early, i got it about 4 months ago and havnt bothered to repot, only pruned and given it a very diy trellis. I know it's just 1 flower but is this normal??

They definitely can flower at this size!

I have a one node cutting that’s produced a pedunk and keeps blasting buds because it doesn’t have the energy to mature them. I have a three leaf Hoya that’s successfully flowered. A plant that size can absolutely pop off if conditions are good 🙂

  3. I have much smaller hoya that flower all the time! I think if you were to grow a hoya from seed it would need a length of time to mature before it could flower. But cuttings rooted from mature plants can start flowering any time.

Yep! My fitchii started flowering very soon after I bought it too.

That’s what I would consider a “practice peduncle”… many of my younger Hoyas put out little peduncles that don’t mature at first. It’s always exciting to see, but I don’t get my hopes up unless it’s clearly growing quickly. The ones that stay that size for a while will sometimes eventually just fall off too. Either way it’s a good sign that your Hoya will flower when it’s ready!
