It’ll soon be that time of year when we all start heading outdoors for those long summer evenings in the garden.
And when dusk falls there’s no better way to get a cosy glow than with some lighting.
With retailers going all out to meet demand from people wanting a garden glow up, there are more products available than ever before.

One thing my garden did need was some string lights and – sick of flimsy lights that don’t last more than one summer – I decided to invest in some mains powered ones.

Priced just £19.99 for a box of 15 Extendable Festival String Lights, I wasn’t sure what the quality of them would be like.
But they’re actually really sturdy and look much more expensive than the price tag. The one set is enough for the seating area where we wanted them and with a 14.6m wire, they cover a lot more space than I expected.
If you do have a bigger area to light up, then you can connect multiple sets together as they’re fully interconnectable. And as the LED bulbs are replaceable too, I’m hoping these will go the distance.
The fact they’re mains powered mean we can have them on whenever we want – and the light is much brighter.
There are lots of solar-powered options too however, including these Firefly String Solar Lights costing £14.99 for a box of 10.

And we picked up some gorgeous additions, including this grey Firefly Solar Candle Lantern, with a built-in twilight sensor and flame LED effect, which creates such a warm, ambient atmosphere.
At 42cm in height and 38cm depth, it’s a really decent size, and looks good either resting on the floor or hanging high. It’s well worth the £14.99 price.
Even with just a few pounds to spare, you can still add a cosy vibe with these Firefly Assorted Plastic Colour Light Bulbs, which can be bought individually for just 99p each.

They’re solar powered and there’s no installation required so you can just clip each one wherever you want it – be it a branch, a wire or a bit of rope.
They come in various colours including blue, pink, yellow and clear, and with batteries included, they automatically turn on at dusk providing a ‘warm LED white’ light.
