The wife and I had this area cleared out last year. We’re trying to plant some hydrangeas. I want to know the best way to that in these location. They can take a couple days to dry out. As you can see, the process of removing the old plants left a depression and it puddles there. I am planning to route the gutter drainage and the sump pump drainage out to the back yard, and I’m also planning to plant the hydrangeas in the ground without raising the bed. We’re in northeast Ohio.

You have significant drainage issues that must be addressed. You must do a thorough job to get rid of the Canadian thistle, use chemicals, this is a real problem plant. Add organic matter to the soil before you plant.
