This is my first attempt and I feel like I'm struggling meeting the vision I was aiming for. I have and maintain several nice aquariums from 5 to 75 Gallons and I have a lot of plants so palidarium was my next step. I want this 40/50 Gallon tank to hold 3-4 fire bellied toads. The land areas are plastic totes filled with a draining layer and soil mixed with aquarium soil and sphagnum Moss. I learned from another small previous experiment that the water couldn't be in full contact with the soil. I did the background with expanding foam and gorilla glue and then threw cocoa fiber and Coco husk mixture onto it. The waterfall through the elephant is a small canister filter, pulling water from the left and then coming out the elephant. Some of the plants in the water like the bamboo and a pothos section are just temporary to help stabilize the water.

I really want to have Moss growing on the walls. I was thinking about getting a moss blend mixture to to spread on to it so that it will grow in. I think that I need a couple more spray nozzles to help keep the walls moist because the two I have are barely touching them while getting the plants and the cocoa fiber is constantly coming off. I currently have it misting for 10 seconds every hour.

Any help or ideas would be great. I'd appreciate any feedback.

First off, we’re always are worst critics. I think it’s a good stab at a first set up.

I am embarking on this same journey soon and I have all these grand plans and I feel like I won’t end up near them without some difficulty.

Fogger to come out of a volcano type thing and flow down the mountain and I have this “log” with a face carved into it. I want to make my waterfall come out her mouth.

Been looking at plants and stuff. Want to try to imitate a forest going up the mountain.

Easy peasy lmao. I love the canister idea for your filtering and water distribution. I run them on all my tanks never thought to apply it here

I love this. I’m working on a nano-paludarium to support a small tank of shrimp. What I like about your setup is that it is different. Don’t get me wrong, folks are putting together gorgeous pals that I could stare at all day, but so many seem to use the same stuff like the same plants – always Anubis and buces. Lovely plants for sure, but you have other stuff in there and it has a more personal, creative and different look to it. I’m an absolute newbie so I don’t have any advice except to say I think this is great and keep going!
