Should I cut off this competitor growth? None of the other pencil pines had them, I wouldn’t have chose from the nursery but they only had the amount I wanted. I figured it would blend in but it’s getting pretty big now. Google says I should cut off any competitor growth as when the tree gets bigger it will cause it to be top heavy and have weak points which could break during high winds.
Thoughts?

Yes, cut it off as low and close to the main trunk as possible
At the ground. Then mattock out the roots. 😬
I would let it go. They can handle everything but pruning. Its already too late to cut it off and have the main leader symmetrical. If you are fastidious, remove and relocate it over winter and put another on in that might be better DNA, that one will likely continue to sucker from the base.
