Yes there are people who consider this a mess, filth, weedy, too long, tick-ridden, you name it. All mostly opinion-based without much rational thinking behind it. And definitely not only in the USA.
At the same time there are people/companies who’ll find this pretty and useful an actively manage their property to get something like this, or even much higher meadow-like vegetations etc. Those mostly do it in function of biodiversity based on the knowledge that we humans are at a rather fast rate destroying said biodiversity, and species-rich grasslands are one of those systems which are in decline.
