Hello, I am currently building a new terrarium for my cornsnake. I have installed 2 lamp holders, and that is where my problem is.

I put in a 150w basking spot lamp which worked fine and still does if I put it in.

That one is a bit too hot so I got a 75 w basking spot and 42w uvb lamp in.

Both of them lit up for about a second and then stopped.

The big lamp still works fine in both lamp holders.

Both of the smaller ones do not.

Any ideas??

Sounds like they blew. Cheap bulbs will do that. Arcadia halogens are what you want. And holy crap I hope there’s a thermostat under these bulbs because 150w will strait cook a cornsnake. Even 75w will at full power.

Do you have a picture of the new enclosure? That would help. What are you using as a basking area? Like a rock, just the enclosure floor…?

Double check the metal contacts in the bottom of the socket and observe if they need adjusting, it could be just a loose connection.
