  1. Fantastic video! I would have to add salvias to that list as well. Proven Winners has several varieties that are just gorgeous, attract pollinators and hummers and require very little maintenance.

  2. Salvia. Pollinators galore, continual blooming through the hottest days of summer and low maintenance. Rockin’ Blue, Blue Suede Shoes and Deep Purple—all from Proven Winners—have been rockstars (and often perennialize) in our zone 8a garden near Atlanta.

  3. I love your videos.
I learn something new every time.
I have most of the plants you have suggested.
I live in middle Georgia where most of these do really well.
I have the larger variety of marigolds, can you please suggest a smaller or shorter version for my garden.

  4. TY… I use Marigolds and LOVE them BUT…..our neighborhood deer LOVE them too… I had to buy Deer Off (not cheap) and spray them..I have a problem all year with deer soOOoo NOTHING is deer resistant in my neck of the woods… WV 💛💙💛💙

  5. Good evening that’s a great variety of annuals now there’s a perennial lantana called miss huff that comes back usually here in north Alabama and one called Chappel hill gold That’s supposed to do well here 😊

  6. Viewing from Albuquerque NM. Appreciate your channel for a comparison of what thrives in different regions. Here, petunias, and ferns are tormented by the dry conditions and high altitude. Lantana, geraniums, zinnias and colius do incredibly well here.
    Thanks for your content.

  7. Hi, this is Joanne from California. I am in zone 9B, and I wanted to know how can we kill insects that get our tropical plants outside our vegetables, flowers could you ❤please do a video on that? I’ll be watching thank you.

  8. What are the deer resistant flowers…..deer eat all of my flowers …the come out of the woods into our neighborhood and they’re like pets ugh…. I want to have pretty flowers on my patio that is not surrounded by a gate and they eat everything…. How about Mandevilla?

  9. New Gold lantana is great coverage around your mailbox, it is low to the ground and yellow blooms. If you mulch it (little more than usual) it may come back, in grow zone 8, 7b

  10. I have had success with all of these except petunias. I love the smell of the purple variety but I must be doing something wrong. They rarely look good after the heat sets in in July.

  11. We always plant zinnia in our garden! They are a show-stopper. We love them because honeybees, hummers, and birds can't get enough of them.

  12. Lantana does have some non-invasive cultivars. ‘Gold Mound’, ‘New Gold’, ‘Alba’ and ‘Patriot’ are all considered non-invasive. Here's others: Miss Huff', 'Mozelle', 'New Gold', and 'Samantha' ('Lemon Swirl').

  13. We're growing Profusion Zinnias this season ('Orange', 'Double Yellow'). These are more of a landscape variety with good disease resistance compared to Zinnia elegans. They will bloom throughout the Summer and into the Fall. Some suggest planting them as close as 6" apart, but we chose 12" apart in two staggered rows to hopefully minimize any fungal diseases (some gardeners will space them even further apart). They already have more than 6 blooms each, with several more buds appearing.

  14. I was wondering which of these nice flowers you would recommend for a full sun south facing Southern patio in Giant planters? I really like the petunias and germaniums but I want to make sure theyd go together in the same pot.

  15. My husband and I stumbled onto your videos, and we are so glad we did. I am trying to create a wonderful garden of flowers and plants to attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and pollinators. We live in Salisbury, North Carolina. Our zone is 7b-8a, although temperatures have increased somewhat over the last few years. Our house faces south, and we are surrounded by trees which provide shade, but the front flower bed gets most of the afternoon sun. I just wanted to ask what plants you would suggest for this area. The issue I have is the afternoon sun, but the soil stays very moist. I have had lantana grow, but it stayed small. Our hostas grow huge, but I have trouble keeping other flowering plants alive. We have creeping jenny, periwinkle, and ajuga for ground cover. There is a small gardenia bush that is struggling. Container flowers do okay, but I would like to have plants rather than a bunch of containers sitting around. Could you give us some suggestions? I would very much appreciate it. Also, thanks for sharing your knowledge! Thank you Rhonnie and Wayne 🙂

  16. great video…i have used pretty much all these plants over the years……i love shade gardens and coleus and ferns have saved me on many areas in my yard. i also love building water gardens with native wild shade plants placed around them. gardening is one of my favorite expensive hobbies and having established perennials helps, each year annuals get more and expensive, i need my own greenhouse to grow my own. lol

  17. Ah the sweet scent of lantana. Those r my absolute favorite annual. Pair the red trailing lantana with white geraniums and blue salvia for a patriotic entry.

  18. Hello. I’m in Zone 5b, I have rabbits that love flowers. What would you recommend for flower beds? Also, hanging baskets. Thank you!
