Hiya,
I recently moved to this house and the house had a lawn which was overgrown. I mowed it earlier this week when it was dry. It has weeds all over as well. It looks like this, what should I do next to revive it and make it look better. Please share your suggestions! TIA.

Go though this subreddit for many recent posts on it, this question is asked almost daily at this point

To summarise what has been said in other recent posts – keep it mown regularly for the next while and the grass will triumph. Rake and scarify and throw down some seeds if you’ve bare patches. But see how the moving regular mowing goes first.

Neglected or overgrown grass tends to stay green in the upper layers of the leaves only. The shaded areas near the soil get discolored, so it will just look bad after mowing, especially if done after winter. Dry weather will impact regrowth, unfortunately.

    Rake it
    Cut it minimally
    Water it

    Repeat in a few days

Do all of the above but start with water ASAP. Give the grass a good soaking every evening while the weather is dry. It is best to do it in the evening as it will have time to absorb and will hold the water. If you do it during the day, it will dry out quickly in sun which will be a waste of time. If you are doing it with a hose you’ll probably be out there for about 20 – 30mins but it will help enormously. You could also consider getting a sprinkler attachment for the hose – amazon, Lidl or woodies do them. They are very handy for lawn needing lots of care. Best of luck with it 👍

Also keep the cut height at the highest setting until the grass re-establishes itself

Buy a bag of 10 10 20 lawn fertilizer, and water well.
