I'm done buying plants from big box stores. One that rhymes with Gnome Repo always drowns their plants in the store to the point you're hauling a 5 gallon jug of water that comes with a plant and mud 😭.

Yet I tell the plants, 'don't worry, I'm getting you out of these horrid conditions' as I pat their leaves.

And then that gnat infestation I just finally defeated in my home now starts again. 😫

Well im off to buy another plant from Dome Chico 😂 jk jk. The next war is on 💪👏😒

Hahaha. Yeah it’s awful how shitty they are at taking care of plants.

Can you sprinkle a later of sand over them when you bring them home?

Mosquito bits tea. Use the bits, not the dunks. I went through 10 packs of dunks and they helped a little and they smell terrible after sitting it water for over a day, but the bits did the trick. The package suggests 4 tbsp per gal. I double that, let it soak for 30 min, shaking a few time. Filter through one of those reusable metal coffee filters, and water plants. Use it on every single plant in your home. If you leave one untreated they will just spread again. When I need to fertilize I just mix it with my nutrients in my watering can, but still give mosquito bit tea every watering until they are gone. I catch nothing on my sticky traps now.

These sticky papers are useless, well atleast for me. After killing many plants with numerous products againts these flies, they were winning until I found a natural way of evicting them from my appartement. From what I understood, it is biocides, beneficial something that eats these flies, and their eggs.
Here is a link to the online shop maybe you find a better ingredient list there and be able to search for an alternative in your country.

Nematodes will kill almost all of them in one hit.

A spray bottle of rubbing alcohol works!
Mist the plant- and you can hit some of the airborne fungus gnats.
    Also spray the soil.
The gnats hide close to the top and this will decrease their population until they are gone.
It has never hurt my house plants.
I learned the technique from an upscale large nursery that sold beautiful (but expensive) high quality plants.

No amount of hydrogen peroxide ever got rid of these. But I noticed my plants flourishing 😵

Gnatrol. I have 125 plants and zero gnats.

  10. yellow sticky paper is used as an early warning indicator more than as an active control since it only addresses adults.

BTI in the water or nematodes or both are a more direct method of removal.

I can’t recommend neem oil enough!

repot OUTSIDE (soil straight into a trashbag, tie it)and just cover the top soil w the yellow stickers layered

A nice layer of diatomaceous earth worked wonders for me. It’s not pretty but it’s effective.

Nematodes 100% and if possible alternate top and bottom watering so that the top of the soil can dry out which the gnats don’t like.

I had an infestation, I used nematodes, works brilliantly!

If you’re fine with the look, small grain sand (I just went to my nearest pet shop and bought aquarium sand) on top of the dirt will kill them off. Eggs that have been laid in the soil will hatch and when they try to emerge the sand will literally shred their bodies killing them. That was my last resort when I had a huge gnat and fruit fly infestation and I never had any issues with them after that. Only “problem” was I have cats who would like to sit in the plants and when they’d jump back down they’d spread sand everywhere on ground creating a mess lol

  18. I used a combo of sticky traps, butterworts, and mosquito dunks. Took me about 2 months to finally be rid of the pests.
