What to plant at the bottom of this tree


Just weeded all around this lovely (Maple?) Tree. Wondering what to plant around the bottom. Or could I do stones ?

    I’d crowd it out with loads of things pouring down the wall. If it’s sunny – Geranium Rozanne or other hardy geraniums, prostrate rosemary, thyme, erigeron k. Would look really cool.

    The purple or red heucheras are nice in shade to go with the tree. But mine got rust and died. Wouldn’t get them again for here. But were interesting to look at. Just unfortunate they got rust fungus.
