I have these 4 oak seedlings that I’ve grown from acorns. They were all in one pot and I’ve just repotted them into their own space – the pots are 20cm ones.
Two are doing very well and have got offshoots growing from the main stem.
Q1. How long can I grow them in these size pots?
Q2. At what point do I cut them back? I believe I should cut off any offshoots to encourage upwards growth but I don’t have any experience so not sure.
Q3. What about the roots? I’ve read about “girdling” where the tap and side roots start to spiral once they hit the bottom and sides of the plant pots. This apparently dooms the tree?
Any / all advice welcome. The seedlings are on my balcony which gets very good afternoon / evening sunlight.
I’d like to grow them for as long as possible to enjoy them but also have them viable to be given away and transplanted into the ground in an outdoor space.
