Hi all,
I needed a new hobby after finally managing to quit the booze (2 months now).
My wife (always right god bless her) told me I needed a hobby to focus my mind in the evenings.
Well, here I am. I stumbled across this group and loved what I saw. After about a month of research, reading some books, and about a million youtube videos, I've got myself a selection of plants I'm propagating (and managing to keep alive!). I got myself some supplies and tools, and this is my conservative first creation.
I'm looking forward to making some mistakes, seeing what fails, and seeing what works.
Fantastic group this. Lots of constructive comments and positivity. Thanks guys, I've found my hobby.

Congratulations on 2 months!
Welcome to the hobby, but beware, this can also turn to nasty addiction…
– Created 07 May 2026.
– Plants used: Fittonia, Peperomia ‘Pepperspot, Pilea glauca.
– Moss responsibly collected with landowners permission. Washed and cleaned.
– Current light source: window.
– Water source: Tap through a Brita water filter (the best source I have to hand currently). This is my first build so best guess on amount used through research.
– Lava rock drainage layer with window mesh.
– Coco Coir, Perlite and Worm Castings base mix with some activated charcoal mixed in.
– Jar size is probably a couple of litres.
I hope I can make one someday.
Why is the jar upside down?
