Does this stuff need anything added to it or do you just mix water and let it expand? I'm putting some herbs (basil, thyme, chives, etc.) in containers on an apartment balcony and this stuff would be a godsend for logistical purposes.

I usually amend with a slow release fert and maybe some compost. If youre only doing herbs you might be fine without amending it, but I have not used the pro-mix flower/general purpose one though, only “Herb and veg” with stuff like tomatoes & peppers which definitely benefit from a little amendment, and pro-mix hp (which requires amendement, as it contains no nutrients at all).
Amend nicely with good organics. Build a soil makes a mineral supplement specifically for peat to make it less acidic
