I planted tubers pointed upwards with the intent of taking rooted cuttings. Another tuber of the same variety (in another container) was found to have gall. I stopped doing any cuttings, let them be and now it looks like these tubers are in fact disease free. I’m not able to put them in the ground for another 2-3 weeks but now they are oriented in an odd direction with lots of growth. What would you do? TIA

This is an automatic reminder regarding r/dahlias Rule 3:
When reasonable*, posters should make a good-faith effort to identify which variety/varieties are shown in their photo(s). If you don’t know for certain, please say so. Someone will usually know!
*Common-sense exceptions to this rule will be honored, such as if the photo does not contain a blossom, or if your photo contains large volumes (such as in wide field shots).
If you’ve already done this, thank you! No further action required.
If not, please add a reply to this comment and confirm if you know the name of your dahlia variety/varieties shown in the photo(s). Alternately, if you’re uncertain of the variety name(s), it’s ok to say that, too.

Either plant it as-is or take a cutting of what’s grown and let it regrow
FYI, gall is a bacteria that lives on the surface of tubers for a long time, you only see symptoms when it can colonize an injury site. So just be aware of that.
You don’t have to plant these on their side. Plenty of people plant vertically including Paul Bloomquist. They are fine as is. Just strip lowest leaves before sinking into the ground.
If you want to do cuttings still, leaf node cuttings are awesome. Just sanitize between snips if you’re concerned about presence of gall bacteria https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGm3C1Zt9G4&t=9
Ok. Great pic. I have many tubers like this now. 3-4 inches of growth. Necks exposed. Everyting looks healthy, time to put on the ground. Do i bury tuber 4-5 inches below ground and cut off lower leaves? Any input appreciated.
