I have almost 1 acre with new build home that was purchased this past winter. We need advice!!!! We are going to prep soil and thinking about seeding but we think it’s probably better to wait till fall. We wanted a decent backyard this summer for us and our kids. Another option would be sod. We received quote for seed and one for sod. Surprisingly seed was more expensive by $2k because landscaper said we needed to lay top soil down prior to seed. Any thoughts? How can I achieve beautiful grass without breaking bank and possibly doing it now without summer heat killing grass? Thank you!

This looks like fungus to me, probably brown patch tbh. Usually shows up as distinct brownish circles that sometimes have a greener patch in the middle. Stop watering late at night lol, that’s what always causes this for me. Apply a fungicide as soon as you can.

I don’t know enough about this but I feel like you’d need some topsoil on this to have good success with sod, too. Either one – seed or sod – you’re gonna need to be watering a ton. An acre is a lot. I’d probably carve a reasonable sized space to put down sod that your kids would play on, and plant natives and native ground cover on the rest. You won’t need an acre of grass and won’t want to water an acre of grass.

You haven’t considered a third option: hydro seeding
