First time homeowner – this stuff has overtaken portions of our yard where our Bermuda struggles. Leave it? Get rid of it?

Looks like nut sedge to me. Dig out a chunk and if it has tubular looking runners with a big brown nut attached, good luck. It’s there to stay. It’s actually known as “The world’s worst invasive weed” — infesting over 90 countries and extremely difficult to get rid of. Sedgehammer will be your friend if you really want to get after it. I find it mostly in my DG rock paths. I wait fo a really heavy soaking rain so the ground is loose and go to town pulling it up. It’s super satisfying when you get the runner and the nut but 75% of the time it’s super frustrating because the weed snaps and you know it’ll come back in five new places from that failed attempt. God speed!

Nutsedge. Don’t pull it out you’ll grow more. You need nutsedge killer.

Sledgehammer. That’s the only thing that’ll kill it.
