I'm in South West Idaho and just curious on how to go about stopping grass from encroaching on my rocks in my lawn. I have grass growing in the rocks around my trees in the front yard and also on the edges of my rocks. What can I spray or do to fix this?

Also in my back yard a bunch of grass is popping up along my fence. There is a drainage area behind my fence with grass but there is about a 12" space of gravel between the back of my fence and the grass in the drainage area so not sure why it is popping up on the inside of my fence. Wood a grass/weed killer work for that and not affect the others plants around it?

  1. I would add some kind of landscape edging. The loose rocks have huge gaps and you really won’t be able to stop creep with just chemicals.

Add landscape edging, and you need to use a manual or mechanical edger tool occasionally/when needed

I have this same problem under my deck. Removing the rocks to add landscape fabric will be a huge task!

Add edging and be consistent about getting out the string trimmer weekly and maintaining a 2 or 3 inch bare dirt space on the lawn side. Even then some of the rhizomes are going to make it underneath.
