  1. I keep my basil in pots because I still have the same one as I did 2 years ago. Just keep trimming them back to stop flowering and overwintering inside.

  2. Genovese basil isn't supposed to get big, it should be harvested when the leaves are small 😉 that's when it tastes best. Also, it needs a dedicated spot without other herbs or its taste will change (especially no mint)

  3. Not everyone can afford a house and a back yard. Done if us have little balconies, so all we can do is grow herbs in pots. At least we’re trying.

  4. Maybe planting it on the same spot all the time is the issue. The basil is taking from that spot, what are you planting next that will regenerate the soil and compost? Digging in some of the plant would be a start, that way it can return the nutrients it took.

  5. where I live , I can grow it as a warm season annual . I never manage to grow it that big with all the trimming . If you manage to find the perfect spot it grows bigger and healthier in free garden soil rather than pots, that is true . Although I never manage to get basil sprout by itself like i do with thyme. Thyme is an absolute immortal .

  6. Why did you take out your giant basil initially? I'm so curious because it seems like it would survive winter at that point

  7. The genovese basil can get pretty big. I have grown them for years I'm talking about since 2012 and you're supposed harvest their seeds. Some of their seeds after that will grow big or a small size but most batches should be big. I gave away 5 of them. They were around 2 to 3 feet while I kept the bigger ones. People kept saying they didn't know they can get so big and these are cooks and chefs I gave them to

  8. My mom and I planted summer squash cantaloupe and watermelons I overfertilized the soil A lot of them burned away but we are left with 20 summer squash plants seven watermelon plants and seven cantaloupe plants in our raised bed and our other raised bed our beets mustard and collard greens and onions failed but we do have like 40 peppercini plants so back to the drawing board for the other bed I I'm going to plant shade tolerant more soil tolerance variety of greens since we live in Texas our growing season is long

  9. When you sow seeds, most of them should germinate. Old seed packets won't though, especially if they aren't stored correctly. Perhaps you should also experiment with a different brand. Botanical Interests has always been reliable for me.

  10. All of mine keep turning bitter. I tried all new dirt this year and it’s already bitter less than a month in. It hasn’t flowered so I don’t know what I’m doing.

  11. You need to look into maybe growing lettuce leaf basil and add basalt sand and add biochard

  12. No! I remember this. 😂 That year I had a huge basil 🌿 plant too (not as big as yours). I remember seeing that video & thinking “year of the big basil”. Mine haven’t done as well ever since. 😂😂

  13. I'm growing in mints in pots, and lavender in pots, but the lavender is in 5 gallon buckets, and the mints are going to be uplanted into 5 gallon buckets as well. That handle makes moving the pots around so much easier

  14. Basil is best suited for a pot actually as you can keep it alive all year round in a pot and bring it indoors to avoid freezing temps.

  15. I love your bean plants I have to redo some of mine because all the leaves fell off and they only made me sick beans total 😂😂😂 I had them in a shallow garden bed, so I wonder if I put them in buckets or in the ground if they'll do even better.

  16. What are people doing with this amount of basil? You need like 20 leaves for the whole summer…
