Hi everyone!
I have a Philodendron mayoi that seems healthy overall and keeps pushing out new growth, but I’m having an issue with the new leaves not unfurling properly.
The leaves often seem to get stuck while emerging, and when they finally open, or when I very carefully help them, they end up looking wrinkled, folded, or slightly misshapen. It almost looks like the leaf gets trapped in the cataphyll and can’t release cleanly on its own.
I’ve checked carefully for thrips and other pests and haven’t found anything. The plant is in a north/west-facing window and gets some afternoon sun, roughly from 3–6 PM. I water about once a week or when it feels dry, but I’m wondering if this could be related to humidity, inconsistent moisture, light, or maybe just something Philodendron mayoi is prone to.
Has anyone else experienced this with Mayoi or similar Philodendrons? What helped in your case?
Thanks!

What’s your humidity at? Raising the humidity will probably help.
If there’s anything I’ve learned from my philodendron, its that as soon as humidity drops, we will NOT be unfurling leaves!
Cover it in a wet paper towel and give it a gentle massage.
