A 200 square metre Ukrainian garden debuted by Wurzburg castle, mixing seasonal plantings and cultural symbols. The installation hints at growing ties between the two partner cities.
In the German city of Würzburg, during the Future Festival dedicated to Europe Day, the Ukrainian Garden of 200 square meters was opened.
The Lviv City Council reported on this event.
The festival brought together more than twenty nationalities. The event was attended by Würzburg’s mayor Martin Haelig and Taras Kubai, director of the Department of Natural Resources and Construction of the Lviv City Council.
Concept and Opening Ceremony
In Würzburg there is a tradition – all partner cities have a special location near the castle, where each of them presents its garden in a national style. A plot of 200 square meters was allocated for the Ukrainian Garden. Nearby are the gardens of the United States, Japan, and Normandy

The concept is that, by stepping onto this cobblestone, visitors can observe how the garden changes throughout the year: the flowers here are planted according to the seasons, so gradually plant compositions will replace one another

The opening of the Ukrainian Garden was timed to Europe Day. All works were funded by the Würzburg municipality.
As reported, Würzburg officially became a twin city of Lviv in 2023.
Chereha Kleparivska is a cultivar of sweet cherry developed in Kleparów, a suburb of Lviv, which was renowned for its large size and flavor beyond Lviv. The residents of Kleparów engaged in gardening and horticulture, and the area was famous for its orchards and vineyards. In 1555, a decree was issued in Lviv mandating the protection of this tree variety. It became very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, and its cultivation spread to other parts of Europe, the United States, and Australia.
Overall, the Ukrainian Garden in Würzburg sounds like a symbol of friendship between the cities and a reminder of the richness of Ukrainian culture in Europe.
