Recently purchased this property and have made it my mission to rescue whatever trees I can. This isn’t even the worst case.

Does this tree stand a chance? What else should I do to help it out?

Just keep taking out roots, especially in the winter when damage doesn’t induce them to put out more growth. You’re doing gods work!

Saw through the vine, wait for it to die, cut off the hanging growth for aesthetics if you want, and let the vine rot around the trunk until it falls off or you can pull it off yourself.

If you want to kill new growth with herbicide, use triclopyr and apply herbicide to the cut on the mature vine to make sure it dies for good.
