got this beautiful oncidium (i believe it’s an oncidium?) at a local nursery. the flowers are fragrant with a sweet buttery scent. i’m having some trouble finding orchids that look similar to this one and i would like to identify it to better understand its care.

Maxillaria tenuifolia. Also known as coconut orchid.

that’s quite a nice maxillaria, I don’t often see them with that many flowers

As others have said, maxillaria tenufolia… not particularly closely related to oncidiinae (they don’t hybridise) – but some out of bloom maxillaria and oncidiums look virtually identical so it’s an easy mistake to make.

I have one that is growing like crazy but not blooming- any recommendations?

One of the telltale signs of Maxilarias are the pseudobulbs that grow up the stalks, oncidiums don’t grow that way

That’s a coconut orchid. Not an oncidium, it’s a maxillaria. Flowers have a light coconut scent.
