I made my compost by digging a hole in the ground, do you think it will work?

Sure, are those ashes? Seems like a lot

Will things rot down in a hole in the ground? Yes. Will what’s in this picture become useful compost? No.

Should I keep adding to it and then mix it? Doesn’t it work this way?

Everyone is poking fun at you, but if you want a real answer:

The biggest problem with that setup is the grass. It’s going to invade your compost so hard. You’ll wish you had a firm barrier between the grass and your hole. Even better would be to just kill all that grass. Also, with an open uncovered hole, you’ll have tons of critters and weed seed issues most likely.

Yes. I’ve done this in the past and works wonderful.

Does it have pumpkin, grass, eggshells, potatoes, ashes, or soil?

Here’s all I say: this was my dads way of ‘composting’ for years. Essentially a massive hole/pile on the ground that he threw everything on and never touched.

Did he ever use the compost? No. Was it the best idea? No. Did it do a decent job of breaking down food and leaves and such? Kinda.

Absolutely. Make it longer and it doesnt need to be too deep. Use the three pile method
