There’s a nesting pair in a tree in the neighbor’s yard, but we see them hanging out in our trees and fence line quite a lot. The squirrels and the doves, though… not seeing much of them lately.
Please send it over to my yard for an easy hunt. My yard is full of freshly weaned squirrels with no survival instincts, so they will be an easy lunch. I had one in my hanging plant on the back patio that couldn’t figure out how to get down. I had to go help it. Even standing right in front of the pot it didn’t get down. I had to grab it by tail and lift it off of the potted plant.
ETA: This looks like a broad winged hawk, and we are on the edge of their migration route. Welcome little hunter. Please eat your fill while passing through.

A few years back, I was walking over campus and noticed a bunch of people looking up into a tree. In the tree, a hawk was taking apart a squirrel. As I continued to my parking garage, I saw another hawk dive into a tree and narrowly miss another squirrel.

We’ve got a pair of (what we think are) broad-winged hawks that come back every spring to nest in our backyard neighbors’ trees. They are incredibly fun to watch! (We also have a nesting pair of great horned owls in the fall because my neighborhood is magical.)

Got a pair of broaden hawks nesting next door to me. Watching them build a nest, hunt and fly around the last 4 weeks has been great. Saw them mate on a tree too. So they’ll be around awhile I think.
