Home Bargains has recently launched a new decorative item for its outdoor range, which it says transforms British gardens into a “peaceful retreat” for wildlife. For certain creatures, purchasing this £20 product could prove vital.

A spokesperson for Home Bargains said: “Add a charming touch to your garden with the Jardin Speckled Bird Bath, designed to attract birds while enhancing your outdoor space with its stylish speckled finish. Perfect for nature lovers who want to create a peaceful retreat.”

The plastic bird bath is available in two colour choices – navy blue and deep green. Both versions cost £19.99 each and can be purchased in Home Bargains’ shops or ordered online for direct home delivery.

The bath measures 55cm in height and features a bowl spanning 44.5cm, providing ample room for birds requiring a clean or drink to visit gardens. There are lots of new outdoor products available at Home Bargains heading into summer.

From furniture and decorative pieces to gardening equipment, children’s playthings and more, browse online here. Some products will only be available to purchase in shops across the UK, reports the Mirror.

There are similar items available elsewhere for “nature lovers”. Dunelm has an offer on this Fallen Fruits Small Terracotta Birdbath (worth £24) and B&Q offers this £77 Terrastyle Glazed Bird Bath.

Dunelm’s “100% terracotta” design is considerably more compact than the Home Bargains version (measuring just 22cm in height), meaning it would work best positioned on a table or similar surface. Shoppers have described it as “beautiful in every way”, however, with one noting it “blends in nicely with flower pots”

B&Q’s version (priced £57 higher) offers birds “a warm welcome to your garden”, and the retailer suggests it provides “a tranquil finishing touch to any garden space”. While taller than Dunelm’s offering, B&Q’s 48cm height remains shorter than Home Bargains’ alternative.

Why are bird baths beneficial?

According to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), a bird bath can serve as an essential source of drinking water – not just for cleaning purposes. A spokesperson said: “Many people put food out for birds, but fewer provide a regular supply of clean water.

“Birds need water for drinking and bathing. Bird baths are particularly important during winter, when natural sources may be frozen, and in dry conditions that occur mainly during summer.”

They added that the water used for bathing is equally important for birds to maintain the health and quality of their feathers. The RSPB spokesperson said: “Dampening the feathers loosens the dirt and makes the feathers easier to preen.”

Ensure the bath is in a stable and open area, allowing birds a 360-degree view to spot danger. Do not place them directly under bird feeders to prevent seed debris and droppings from polluting the water.
