Gardeners are being offered free bags of compost made from recycled food and garden waste.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s waste and recycling team has 5,000 bags to give away at eight events across the area during May.
Residents can collect two bags each on designated days in Pocklington, Beverley, Preston, Goole, Hornsea, Carnaby, Withernsea and Driffield.
Around 60 tonnes of compost has been recycled from the waste people put in their brown bins throughout the year, the council said.
In February, the authority rolled out weekly brown bin collections of food waste for two-thirds of the East Riding area. The council said the remaining households will get collections in February next year.
The compost will be given away on the following dates and locations –
Monday 11 May, 16:00 BST – Pocklington Wolds Gliding Club
Saturday 16 May, 10:00 – Beverley council depot
Monday 18 May, 16:30 – Preston Lelley Fields Crematorium
Wednesday 20 May, 16:00 -Goole West Park
Friday 22 May, 13:30 – Hornsea Freeport
Saturday 23 May, 10:00 – Carnaby council depot
Wednesday 27 May, 16:00 – Withernsea Pavilion Car Park
Friday 29 May, 16:00 – Driffield Showground
