Hi y'all! I was gifted this beauty from a plant nursery sometime in 2024, and I don't know what kind of pothos it is, specifically, but I've managed to keep it healthy up until now. Its leaves are curling even though the soil is moist/watered all the way to the bottom, its pot has good drainage, and it's not under direct sunlight.
I scrolled a few old posts that asked the same thing, and the 3 common suggestions were:
-
It's overwatered
-
It's underwatered
-
It's got root rot
I don't think it's over/underwatered since the soil was at a good moistness (dark in color all the way through), but I have no clue how to identify root rot 😞
Please help!

It´s not a Pothos but a Scindapsus pictus, the roots don´t look rot to me. If the leaves are curling could it mean too much hot and low humidy. Do you have it near a radiator or smt?
Hey! (FYI, I’m fairly new to plant care myself so take what i say with a grain of salt) I just got one of these like 2-3 weeks ago, and the tag said it was a satin pothos, but apparently they aren’t a type of pothos? Thats so interesting!
Mine is also having a similar issue. The pot it came in from the store was so dense and soggy, I could squeeze the dirt and water would come out. I repotted it into a more drainage friendly soil and placed it where it would have bright indirect sunlight but it was very upset with me after and went limp with the leaves curling similar to yours, with one or two even going yellow. I’m not sure if this will help but I’ve since uprooted it and placed it in water as multiple propagations instead… I’ve also moved them to my shower where they get the same light but hopefully more humidity.
(The plant came as several cuttings with roots shoved into said soggy pot so I didn’t actually do any cutting of the plant to separate it.) if you choose to try to propagate it, just make sure to cut it between each node on the stems (the little brown lumps) and it’s even better if each pice has a leaf too.
Hope your little guy can pull through!
Tbh, I’d cut the plant into small cuttings and grow them in water, then transfer them to soil once the roots have grown. That way you can have a full pot of plant instead of one leggy struggling one.
Queeee?

I can see some rot at the end of some of the roots. I think you are probably keeping the soil too damp or watering incorrectly.
I have eight different pots of various types of *Scindapsus* and none of them need higher humidity than the rest of my plants. They get bright light and thorough watering when the pots feel light/soil is completely dry.
it’s a Scindapsus pictus. not a pothos, in spite of it’s common name (‘satin pothos’). should be planted in a chunky aroid mix like ‘mollys’ or diy. water thoroughly, let dry a bit between watering (top 50% of the pot at least).
leaf curl like that usually means no water’s getting to the leaves. various reasons/possibilities. from mismanagement to bugs like mites/thrips sucking it dry.
root rot? sniff. you’ll know.
