There’s a few things going on…but about 4 months ago I top soiled my fiddle leaf for the time being until I had time to repot. I used a left over bag from my garden shed..
It is very much root bound, but I think the soil I used was contaminated with scales?
I have been battling scales for the last couple months, and it is claiming my plant. The fact it’s root bound would not be helping it either. None of my other plants have got scales, which is why I think it was the leftover old bag soil…
It was once very bushy on the lower half of the plant, now it is looking terrible.
I have been wiping the leaves to physically remove the scales and using neem oil every couple weeks to assist with scale larvae. Im at a loss… the scales have not made their way to the top half yet.. but im thinking.. should i cut it completely back and start again, as i am spending hours upon hours trying to fix this infestation. There is definitely not as many scales on the plant compared to month 1/2 ago.
I am going to repot this week, but should i cut back fist or attempt to repot as is.. and hope the plant will make it?
Does anyone have any suggestions on scales? And or propagating the top half? Success rate?
Soil vs water?
Please help.

Not sure about the scales (sorry – will follow that out of interest) but propagating these things is easy. I just do rooting hormone into soil, keep it damp initially for a bit, and they take off. I’d probably prune to maybe a foot above the level of the window sill
