I'm teetering on the edge of 63 right now. I chose the expansion route, and installed 3 large flower beds in my yard. I have planted numerous trees and shrubs with primary goals of privacy and creating a better view for myself from sunroom/patio area. So far, so good. But now I'm left wondering if I went too far and if I'll be able to keep up with the expansion during my (estimated) 20-year plan. Thanks for having this chat. Lots to think about.
I just turned 60. I started gardening during the pandemic. Now, I'm addicted.
After a lot of trial and error, my entire backyard is a landscape garden. I have a meadow, pollinator garden on one side yard. Part of my front yard is a conifer/Japanese maple garden. The rest of my front lawn and the other side yard is relatively manicured, greener-than-my-neighbors grass. I can cut it in 30 minutes. I can let things go for a couple of weeks and it looks perfectly fine.
When I retire, I'd love to just prune trees. My wife says she likes to pull weeds, but I'll probably end up doing most of the weeding myself. 😉
