My grandma prunes her white Rhododendrons each year at the base. This year she decided to let it grow and they both produced pink branches! I don't remember what's this phenomenon called, could you tell me? Is this a thing Rhododendrons do?

Likely your white variety was a grafted one. The rootstock used was the pink one. As you can see, the pink ones are at the bottom of the plant where the rootstock is.
