A man has been taken into custody after a woman was allegedly beaten to death and buried in a backyard. The suspect, the victim’s own son, is also accused of strangling his brother before burying him in the same manner.
Reports indicate that a dispute erupted while the family was having dinner earlier this month. The 43 year old suspect allegedly launched an attack on his brother, strangling him from behind using a towel.
After the victim collapsed to the floor, the suspect reportedly proceeded to stamp on his neck, chest and face. He then allegedly turned his attention to his elderly mother, striking her in the face and causing her to fall. He then allegedly hoisted her up and hurled her against a wall, an act that proved fatal.
The savage attacks occurred in Nedumkandam, a town situated in the Indian state of Kerala, on Saturday, April 4. Local authorities have since confirmed the arrest of the 43 year old man on suspicion of both murders, with a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday, April 29.
Local media have identified the suspect as Saji, reporting that he kept the bodies of his mother and brother inside the house overnight while cleaning the property. The following day, he wrapped the bodies in green net sheets and relocated them to a nearby shed.
Over the next two days, the 43 year old reportedly continued living his life as though nothing had happened. He then allegedly dug a pit in the garden, burying his mother’s body first, followed by his brother’s.
Following his arrest, Saji informed police that he had acted alone in committing both murders. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later on Wednesday, reports The Express.
Nedumkandam, a growing town in the Idukki district of Kerala, southwestern India, has a population of just over 40,000. The town is well known for its picturesque, high-altitude surroundings.
