Trying to tame the dandelion and clover outbreak in my backyard and have a bag of this stuff that I have yet to try…is it worth using or am I better off getting something more specialized? Idk I’m always worried that Scott’s/anything you find at a big box store will be useless

It completely stopped the dandelions in my yard. But I’m sure someone is about to say I don’t know what I’m talking about.
it worked great on my bermuda, good stuff
All I ever use
I tried it this year, seems fine
I spread this out this year and my neighbor’s lawn had a lot of dandelions and mine had about a handful. Seeing some die and some baby stuff growing so might attack them with some meso next week if they don’t die out
Worked for me – applied it in the front near the street and my side yard. Looks great now and killed all the dandelions. I also pulled probably 200+ from my front and back yard manually.
If you use it correctly on damp/dewy grass, it will clean up broadleaf weeds very well. If you put it down dry, you’re literally throwing money away.
Lawn care professional here. Generally speaking these types of weed killer products don’t work well. The fertilizer is fine. But, for the killer to work, the plants have to be damp and no rain for several days. A spray weed killer is the preferred method of professionals.
Get a good backpack sprayer with a fan style tip and some sort of killer.
Yep, just out some down a few weeks ago to knock out a few patches of clover and dandelions. Weeds need to be damp for the granules to stick & the weeds to uptake the “poison”. Water the fertilizer in 2-3 days later.
I use the triple action.
First year we moved into the house in July and there was more clover and dandelions than grass. I applied this later that year and the following year.
Year two we were in business. Literally little to no dandelions compared to everyone else and clover was almost nonexistent.
Year 3 we were a little late due to rain an weather and there were a ton of dandelions but this cleared them right up about 2 weeks later. I’ll stand by this product as an easy to use and less thinking mentality. Are there better options? Probably. But I just have to make sure grass is damp(morning dew or sprinkler for 15) and then I usually water it in the next day or day after.
You can’t go wrong with Scotts products- over the years I have tried others but Scotts always delivers 100%
Don’t use it if you plan to overseed anytime soon.
Weed and feed is ok, but liquid weed killer works so much better.
I’ve been using it for 3 years and always have had good results. Scott’s gets a bad rip but if you follow the directions and apply during the right conditions it was pretty problem free for me on my Bermuda
For me it stops like 98%, it’s a win.
It works.
I think the answer you’ll get from yard experts (I pay a service to do mine) is that its good enough, and you get what you pay for.
I used it the first few years having a yard and i thought it was pretty decent. That said, I wasnt super clear on the timing of applications, didnt have a strategy for pre-emergent, so it got me through. I suspect if you have a strategy, you’ll see better benefit using more focused products.
I’ve used it. If you follow the directions to the letter – put on damp grass and no water/rain for several days, it works pretty well. I would estimate it killed 80%-90% of the weeds I had.
Put it down in the morning when there’s still dew on the grass or after it rains and it works great!
If you have it, use it. Maybe try using in the morning when there is still dew on the grass because it need to he a little wet for the weed killer. I probably wouldn’t buy it though.
I’ll let you know in a week or two!
Use the house brand. Don’t pay for the marketing, house brand will work just as well.
I might pick up a bag for the front yard. I have a garden and some fruit trees in the back yard , I’m scared of applying anywhere near there. Does anyone recommend anything?
Damn I would love to used this. Except I have 2 acres 🙁 I hate those damn dandelions!!!
It’s better than nothing but it does a poor job of weed control especially if you put it down wrong. I always go to Speedzone …it just works. If you fertilze a few days out (water in) and then put Speedzone down you will get great results. Did you put a preemergent down.
I used it a few times to clear out the bulk of my weeds. Once they were under control I switched to 2-4-D spray to spot treat broadleaf like Canadian thistle and dandelions. I use standalone fertilizer based on my lawns pH
Yes, I put this down in the early fall of last year, and I’m one of the only yards on my street without dandelions right now.
Yes use all their four bags on the schedule they suggest.
Amazing.
In the states yes, in Canada no as it has no herbicide in it here just corn gluten… shakes fist at Canada!!!
It did work remarkably well on my lawn, definitely better for some weeds than others but be warned – if you have large patches of clover like I did then those will very quickly (within 48 hours) turn into large patches of brown dead clover. Took a couple weeks for the intermittent grass to really start filling in those brown patches.
Yes it works. Apply it to wet grass and weeds.
Yes but you can find generic of the same blend of nutrients and herbicide for quit a bit cheaper.
I put this down last Saturday on my front lawn. It rained a few days this week and this morning I noticed my grass was dandelion free, before had a couple dozen maybe here and there.
Iv been using Scott’s 4 step process last year too and there’s honestly a huge improvement in my lawn for the small amount of money iv invested in it.
I use it every year with my low end Scott’s spreader. No really. Spring, summer and fall. Works great for me and is usually on a decent deal at Sam’s Club seasonally. Zero issues with it and have been using it for probably a few decades in one form or another.
I usually apply it early morning while there is dew on the lawn and lite rain predicted within 48 hours. That’s my low core lawn care formula.
I’ve had success with Image products for four years straight. I’ve always avoided Scott’s products but I’m sure it’s dependent on your zone & grass type.
I mean if you have it, use it. But I wouldn’t buy any Scott’s products. From now on, look at the main ingredient in Scott’s products….and go buy them somewhere else for cheaper
I use this all the time. I’m one of the only yards on the block with 0 dandies.
It won’t hurt. I have had some success with products like that. Dedicated products are more aggresive and can produce superior results if applied correctly.
Does the job
