Hello fellow composters!

I've had my pile for 1,5 years and it's going fairly well. I've used the compost for my vegetable garden already. The pile consist mostly of kitchen scraps (fruit/vegetable waste and coffee grounds), fall leaves and grass clippings. This year I've also adde quite a bit of hedge trimmings. I do take a piss often on the pile (so do'nt put this in the comments). Now I've got a couple of qestions for you:

There were some rodent (both rats and mice) issues and I've installed traps around the pile. I left the bodies deep inside my pile, is this smart? Compostwise?

I've been seeing a lot of brown/green ratio comments. Are grass clippings considered brown or green?

Cheers

Get the bin away from your house. Same as a woodpile, a compost pile will bring insects and vermin into your home.

Grass clippings are green that turn brown but you’re really looking for the ‘brown’ of leaves to make a balanced pile.

This looks great, but the structure you have your pile against may suffer some rot if there’s nothing between your compost and the structure.

Are you saying you put the dead rat in the pile? I suppose anything is compostable with enough time, but it might attract some unwanted visitors.

That’s a nice pile tbh. Personally, I’d skip the carcasses just to keep the neighborhood pests away, but to each their own.
