I'm trying to do some container gardening for the first time now that I finally have a place with a balcony, and I picked up this parsley plant a few days ago along with the lemon thyme you can see behind it at the grocery store. I'm hoping it will fill out and stand up straight but I wasn't sure if I should let it do its thing for a while or if I should be more aggressive with trimming like you can do with say a basil plant to get it to grow bushier. I would appreciate any tips on growing a healthy and productive parsley!

It’s leggy and won’t get better. The grocery store sells you less than ideal plants in the hope they die, or not produce, making you more likely to buy the marked up herbs.

I would buy seeds and try again. Sorry mate.

I’d prune the thyme though for a thicker plant. You can root the cuttings in water or soil if you want to.

Could go find a stick and stake em until they fill out, I did that with my dill and 2 weeks later it got strong enough to stand on its own, my parsley kind of looked like that when I picked it up from home Depot it filled out pretty nice once it gets established you’ll start seeing new shoots come out from the middle

The answer is yes and no. Parsley is less stemmy and more so mounding with leaves. It will be floppy until it adjusts to the light and its pot and starts growing more sturdy. Trim as much as you want (you could wait a bit too) and it should continue to produce through the season like basil. The thyme looks fine to me too. Im not sure why everyone is saying to start over.

It is still adjusting to it’s new home. It will sort itself out over the next week or two and then you can assess it’s condition.

It should do well in well drained soil and mostly full sun.
