Came back from vacation and one of my tomatoes has a strong stem, but part of it shriveled to. Nothing, causing the leaves to fall off. Will it continue to grow? How can I prevent this from happening?

  1. Well the top’s not supposed to fall off for a start.

That start is done. Don’t worry it’s early pitch it and plant another.

Probably snails or slugs. Snails have done exactly this to two peppers, three tomatoes, and my two ground cherries this year. I hadn’t had issues before this year with them, so I didn’t catch on until I watched them toppling one of my ground cherries and a pepper early one morning.

Beer traps have been working for me, they just need to be three inches deep for the snails to actually get trapped, in my short experience. I’m sure someone has better advice than I do on the matter, but this has been working for me! I’ve gotten over two dozen snails in them each morning for the past two weeks

Potato beetles have munched on a few of my plants. The plant itself is actually poisonous, and I have found several dead beetles. It looks like they ate themselves to death.

It ain’t shriveled, it’s eaten. Rabbits like to eat all my plants too.

Will a tomato plant grow back when something like this happens? Just happened to mine as well

It will probably put off some suckers and still grow but it’s early enough that you may just want to get a new plant
