MD, USA. Bought this house over winter and have a very overgrown yard. We already have poison ivy, am I one step closer to completing the trifecta? Same plant in both photos.

If your yard is not an undisturbed wetland, it’s never gonna be poison sumac.

That is Euonymus alatus, burning bush

It’s almost never poison sumac. You only very rarely see it in yards as it grows in mostly undisturbed wetlands

Poison ivy is HORRIBLE this year for some reason. I always get some that I take care of quickly but this year it is just EVERYWHERE! Between the poison ivy and the Virginia Creeper (that I’m also allergic to and break out just like poison ivy to the point I have to carry an Epi Pen everywhere now) I am about to just either burn the entire yard down or just let them have the house. 😂. We did end up with poison sumac also but it was only in the part of the woods nobody had been in besides the deer, foxes, birds, squirrels, etc but as soon as we cleaned up the brush it is gone and hasn’t reappeared but the poison ivy is taking over !

Why can’t you kill the poison ivy with a herbicide?
