Oh my. To counter, I just talked my sister out of planting the English Ivy she bought in the ground . . .

The battle we are fighting is unfathomable. Wonder if they fell for invasive propaganda.

the variegated variety seems to be marketed as “non invasive” and “easily controlled by pulling” but who knows. if that marketing worked then maybe they’ll be open to reason
Tell them to put it in a pot before they can never get rid of it at minimum lol. They might listen to you explaining how aggressive it gets considering it’ll ruin the rest of their landscaping

I have some in some county land behind me that I am going to tackle this year. Wish me luck! It is everywhere!

This really scares me because I have never grown a variegated nursery plant that didnāt have at least some āreversionā to plain green. I wouldnāt hesitate to complain if your neighbour wonāt hear reason.

I’d be tempted to just rip it out in the middle of the night while its freshly planted. Oops it died. š¤·

I really truly doubt it.
This was likely a propagation through small piece in the pot of what they actually planted.

Does Japanese Knotwood grow in Ontario? I guess Iām lucky because Iāve never seen but Iām just curious. I donāt really think itās that attractive. The stems look unnaturally big.

The regret will not be long in coming. All you can do is remember that wisdom is chasing down your neighbor, but right now, your neighbor is faster.

I have an ornamental variety of knotweed that the previous owner planted at my house. Iāve been here 5 years and it hasnāt spread. Iāve just mowed over it when I mow the yard for the past 3 years. Do wish it wasnāt here? Yes. Is it trying to take over the world like every other knotweed that gets posted here? Luckily no. Is your neighbor still a fool? Yes.

My friend has one ‘freckles’. When it got more sun it flowerd more and it made seeds and they grew into regular Japanese knotweed with a little varigation. And it also started to agressivly spread too and be an issue
