GARDEN CITY, Idaho (CBS2) — Garden City police marked National Fentanyl Awareness Day on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, by highlighting a local overdose death and the prison sentences handed down to two people who admitted to delivering the fentanyl involved.

The Garden City Police Department said officers responded March 26, 2024, to a residence in the 300 block of E. Teena Street for a reported overdose. Despite efforts by first responders and medical staff, an 18-year-old man, Shaun White, died.

Police said their investigation led to the arrests of Callie Townsend, 21, of Boise, and Kambrianna Hernandez, 20, of Garden City. Both defendants pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance.

Townsend was sentenced Dec. 5, 2025, to a total of 10 years in prison, including two years fixed and eight years indeterminate, police said.

Hernandez was sentenced Monday, April 28, 2026, to a total of 20 years, including five years fixed and 15 years indeterminate, with the court retaining jurisdiction, according to police.

“Cases like this remind us how just one dose of fentanyl can end a young life forever,” said Lt. Leon Dennis. “We will continue to aggressively pursue those who distribute this poison in our community while working to prevent future tragedies through education and awareness.”
