Monstera plant has really long stems??


Ignore the mess, but is the monstera supposed to have long stems like this?? This plant is just all stems with small leaves. Baby bottle for scale 😅😅

    It needs light. A lot of light. It also needs to be acclimated to said light due having been in such low-light setting.

    That’s several individual plants that are overcrowded together so they’re trying to reach the light better by investing in stems. You really should only have a single plant (meaning one vine) and something for it to climb up like a stake, at which point it will start investing in larger leaves as they climb upwards. They also need a lot of sun, much more than people typically give them, so they don’t get too leggy and the distance between each new leaf is short. I had 4 in one very large pot that I inherited from a friend and I ended up needing to separate.

    I think the length of the petioles isn’t that long actually , but it needs as much light as you can allow it to have if it’s inside. I mean, move it slowly to higher light if it’s in a lower light area now, but it will take all the light it can get.

    Also, there are many multiple monstera plants in that pot and you might want to consider separating them sooner rather than later …. they are all competing for resources now, so eventually probably one will win out and start growing larger.

    You can put multiple in a pot together (I have put 2 before together, guess you could do 3-4…) but the plant I originally bought had 8 separate plants….which is too many, and yours looks quite crowded.

    The leaves will look like that, small and no fenestrations until the plant is getting good light and can make larger leaves.
