Hi all! Yesterday I was walking by a dentist and saw them hosing and cleaning their orchids with 4 by the trash. They said they tried saving them but it didn’t work. They’re not in good shape and have (what i assume to be mealy bugs.

I dumped all the bark and soil, cut off dead roots, and sprayed them with what I had.

I’m gonna try to leave them in water for a week or so, just until I can inspect the roots for insects reappearing, then I’m planning on replanting in bark soil.

I’d appreciate any help since this is my first save operation lol

you do not need to leave them in water for any amount of time, that’s just going to stress the plant more when you have to repot it a second time and having water in contact with a root constantly like that promotes rot. just treat them with a pesticide

Well, we aren’t off to a good start because you cut healthy roots on at least one of them. I’m also suspicious that you repotted when they aren’t in active growth. These are going to get worse before they get better. If you are worried about insects, use an insecticide, don’t put them in water
