Last Friday I watched a group of individuals enter the “Dream Garden” at the East Texas Arboretum and drew parallels to our migratory birds and butterflies. The visitors admired the colorful arbor adorned with Peggy Martin roses. Many used their phones to scan the Monarch Butterfly QR code to dig deeper into the behavior of the Monarch. The women and men flitted along the path, between the flower beds, using their phones to identify plants. They drank in the lively discussions about what to plant and where, watering techniques, weed control, and experiments with hybrids.
These 11 visitors, or approximately ten percent of the Parker County Master Gardener Association from Weatherford, were on a tour conducted by members of the Henderson County Master Gardener Association It included the outdoor garden rooms at the East Texas Arboretum, as well as a behind the scenes look at the greenhouse.
