The Yampa River Botanic Park is inviting local youth to tap into their creativity for its Fairy Garden House Contest, a summertime tradition that blends nature and imagination, according to a statement released Tuesday.
Children of all ages can participate, though each entry must include at least one builder under age 12. Designs are limited to 18-by-18 inches and no more than 12 inches tall, and must be constructed from natural materials such as wood, stone or sand.
Plastic and hot glue are not allowed, and entries should avoid political or religious themes.
Submissions are due by 3 p.m. June 10 at the Trillium House. Judging is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. June 12 in the Children’s Garden, following the park’s Stories in the Garden program.
Winning entries will receive prizes including an annual park membership, and all creations will be displayed in the Fairy Garden Village throughout the summer.
“Fairy houses celebrate the special connection between nature and imagination,” said Yampa River Botanic Park Executive Director Jennifer McNeil in the statement. “We hope each one inspires visitors to explore, create and discover a little magic every time they visit the park.”
