Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers was in Superior visiting the Superior Solar Garden on Tuesday to talk sustainable energy.

The Superior Solar Garden is owned by Superior Light Water and Power. It’s a 470 kilowatt solar array that also has a pollinator garden with native plants.

Gov. Evers said that sustainable energy is important to customers.

“One of the main reasons they made this Solar Garden is that there were a lot of people that wanted it in the city, and a lot of their customers,” said Gov. Evers. “So they felt an obligation, and they knew it was the right thing. So they put this out and a lot of people are taking advantage of it. At the end of the day, it is really important to see solar power across the state.”

Superior Water Light and Power tells us they’ve been able to serve 71 residential customers and about 15 commercial customers with local renewable energy.

“We’ve heard from our customers for a while that they wanted some local clean energy choices. That’s when we started developing this project,” said Rob Rob Sandstrom President Superior Water Light and Power. “Not everyone has the ability to put rooftop solar on their home or business. And we are able to do it in a way where we have taken care of all of the maintenance for the life of the project at one fixed cost and consistent rate so our customers can enjoy the benefits of local community solar.”
