The main section of my front yard is ~60' wide x maybe 20' deep. I'm trying to cut down on the amount I need to mow and also beautify my space while taking advantage of the full sun that much of the lawn gets. I love planting zinnias and other flowers so I was considering adding a few raised beds. I'd rather not dig to build an in-ground bed.
I have (2) 8x4x1 green metal raised garden beds – would these look tacky placed on the front lawn? I'm especially concerned in winter months it might look sloppy.
*I'm in Zone 6a
*This is an old photo from before I bought the house a few years ago. The landscaping in the front beds is updated (azaleas, hostas and a hydrangea).

So, in my neighborhood putting in all sorts of raised beds in the front yard is a thing. Metal, brick, sort of hugelkultur — everything you can imagine. It’s great to walk around and see the variety of not-lawns. I’m sure it’s a big change for some to adapt to, but the change begins when someone decides to go first
Years ago I rented a room from a lady that had this giant broken concrete pile covered with straw in her front yard. When spring came, that pile was an amazing variation of random colorful flowers. Unfortunately half the year it looked like remodeling rubble.
Now, we’re on our 5th season with raised beds in our front yard. Every year it gets a little bigger, so now it has a pergola like structure to hold up the tomato’s. Again, half the year it’s just looks like wood boxes…
Fortunately the yard 2 houses down is doing the same thing. It catches on!
Why not plant in the ground? Raised beds will require you to fill them with soil.
I had that idea, I’ll start with 1, I said. I’ll build it I even said. Then I said I lot more things and now there’s six oversized in front and the entire perimeter of the back yard, no more lawn, all wood chips, no more cutting grass and watering a weed.
Edit: you could always plant 56 Cypress trees

Do it
I have two metal raised beds in my yard. One in the front yard, one in the back. They are great and people tend to comment on them. In the fall/winter I bring out the seasonal decor, lights, greenery and holly from my yard. Check out the hugelkultur method of filling the beds so you are not having to use all soil to fill.
I have wooden raised beds in my front yard, but they’re 15 years old and need to be replaced. I have the Birdie’s Beds metal beds in my backyard, and I’m planning to put them in my front yard as well.
