Hilariously enough, watch them in the summer. My grandfather had two yard debris compost piles like this that would occasionally start to smolder if it got too hot out and we’d added too much grass. More than once I helped him water them to cool them off during the hot/dry summer.

I would build up more slowly and mix in more greens.
