My fiddle leaf fig was sickly for years, growing straight upwards and losing leaves. Big brown spots, always turning crispy or wilting, eventually falling off until there was just a 4ft stalk with a sad firework pop of leaves at the tip. Poor light and overwatering.

So I decided to go drastic and just lop the top off to propagate. I figured I’d at least be able to start new and find a better, brighter home for it, while the old growth would just… die.

Except the opposite happened. The old growth is starting to burst into life again, and the propagated tip is dying. I’ve got a big bright grow light directly above it now, so I’m excited to see where it grows from here.

same thing happened to my dwarf arboricola! pruned it, left it to die and in a couple summer weeks it was covered in growth!
