Found after tree clearing on a construction site. It is definitely natural, rather than carved, with no surface details aside from the whorls. It is wooden, and hard all over. It cannot be indented by a fingernail, and a small cut into it shows it is indeed actual wood.

But… What the heck is it? I've worked in environmental science for a while, and I've genuinely never seen anything like this.

    It’s a burl, basically a tree tumor. I’m guessing this one came off the roots somewhere.
