Or at least that's what I'm calling it… inspiration here: https://www.reddit.com/r/composting/s/RyOc3qrzrg

I didn't have all that many bricks, so I dug a ~8 ft³ hole below ground to start the bin, with a 40-inch diameter circle around that. That means my total compost bin volume is close to a cubic yard so far, even though there isn't that much visible. I topped it with a campfire grill grate to keep the wind from carrying stuff away and a pot that I'll fill with something pretty. I'll build it a little taller as I accumulate more material for the kiln (both compostables and bricks!)

I also planted a young wild cherry tree right next to it in a soil mix I made with the displaced clay and the composted BSFL frass from my bins.

Lots of funwork today! Now… where's the Advil…?

Nice. What you do with the dirt you dug out?

Yeah we got a lot of clay by me too but I thought clay had good minerals and other stuff in it. It’d be good for aeration and water drainage I would think.

Are you planning to dig out the compost at some point in the future or is the idea that you will plant in the ground around it and let the roots go into the compost?

If you put a heavy plant pot on top of the grate, does that mean you’re not planning to add to it regularly?
